No waves and nothing to do after work but look for new places in the Boca-to-Boynton areas. As you may have noticed I've updated (or changed) a few pages here and there. The Delray Beach Cam was getting a little boring and not all that useful so I decided to change the "Surf Spots" page to a page of all of beaches I check regularly for surf instead. The Delray Beach Cam is still up, you can find it here. That and I tried to take on a sponsor (Busted Tees) to try and make a little dough. Doubt it will happen but hey, it was worth a shot. See what happens when I get bored?

Last night's surf session was was just that. A lot of work for a little fun. The wind chop was coming in from the south so at least I was able to work on my backside (surfing with my back to the wave) or turning right. According to Surfline tonight's expected wind swell will be no more than dribble. There goes that idea I guess.

Well, our little ground swell last night fell almost completely flat. It looks like we may have some wind chop over the next couple of days as the winds change direction and speed. Today and tomorrow have the best chances of seeing any surf so keep an eye on those web cams!

I'm so tired of reading that as the surf forecast! The weekend yielded no waves at all, none! Barely a ripple. It was a good weekend for lounging on the beach but no surf could be found anywhere in South Florida. The forecast for the upcoming week is just as depressing.

Another Interesting Weekend

Barrie and her family invited me over for Passover Dinner this weekend and I must say, it was an interesting experience (since I'm not Jewish). Everything was going great, (good drinks, good food, conversation) up until  her little brother decided to spike the hookah with weed and get all of us stoned without telling us. After that, a creeping paranoia paralyzed me from almost everything else. Sneaky little bastard. Can't you imagine... me + stoned + 20 or so (mostly elderly) Jewish people as well as Barrie's Mom and Dad.

I think I'm going through withdrawal or something. I haven't been in the water all week and my long board is still in the shop (and will be until Tuesday). Makes me one grumpy person. Monday looks like our best bet for waves anywhere in the near future and it looks to be fair-poor conditions at that. Ugh, I miss my surf buddy, Diana, too. This sucks. At least it's Friday.

I can't stand these assholes. Well, Ok, I'm the asshole. At least I drive like I have some place to be. South Florida driving is a mix of the wondering elderly barely moving through the intersection, cell phone idiots who don't pay attention when changing lanes and people like me who want nothing more than to get around these people as soon as possible. This guy just followed me all the way to my house just to tell me I was an asshole. He said I cut him off though I was behind him and simply passed him on the right b/c he was on the phone and obviously not paying attention to the road. Who knows, maybe I am an asshole but it's your dumb ass who wasn't watching the road and paying more attention to your phone. So I startled you by whipping past you while you ever so slowly decided to change lanes (without signaling). Nah, fuck you buddy, you're the asshole!

Once again I was on the grill, cooking up some raw meat at Dan and Mary's on Sunday night. A few rum and cokes, Coronas and a group of good people and you have a nice relaxing Sunday evening.

Weekend Surf Recap

Well, the surf was definitely up yesterday in Delray. "4-7 ft. - shoulder high to 2 ft. overhead and good-epic conditions. Large overhead surf with clean conditions." is what surfline reported. Once you got out there they seemed MUCH bigger than that. I only had the balls to make one good drop and get creamed once I got on my feet.

Friday was a building day so I went to Boynton to avoid the wind chop. Right off the bat hit a rock and snapped off my center fin and causing much more damage to the fiberglass than initially detected. Shit.  So the long board is out of commission for a while. Saturday stopped down at Boca but the wind was kicking and the waves just weren't breaking right [mushy]. Sunday morning was just too big. Only the very advanced surfers could brave these. Most just sat on the outside in the chance that they could muster the courage to drop in on one, but most settled for medium sets as opposed to the bigger ones. The drift was so bad and the wind picked up it wasn't even worth staying out in the water.

Just a few hours and the weekend will officially begin! Ooh, the excitement. I love Fridays. The waves should build throughout the day and may actually be able to catch a few appetizers after work today. Sunday still looks like THE day to hit the beach (even if there's a shot it may rain). C'mon 5 o'clock!

Ugh, the Atlantic looks like a big-ass lake today. This weekend is quickly shaping up to a doozey though. As far as news there's not much. Pacific Sunwear is having a sale, buy 2 get 1 free, on board shorts so I made the tedious trek down to the Boca Mall (hell) and picked up a few pairs. At least it wasn't crawling with the elderly.

If I had to describe the waves at Boynton yesterday, I'd say yeah, they were sloppy and un-organized. Still I caught about three little rides where Diana got a few more than I did. Looks like the next few days it gong to be flat as hell but everyone's keeping a very close eye on the weekend for sure.

I just checked out WetSand's forecast for the rest of the week and it looks like this weekend's gonna be kickin'. The surf begins on Saturday mid day and it looks to build throughout Sunday.

Today's looking kind of sloppy but Dan said it may get better. Still keeping an eye on the cams.

Last night's surf session was a much needed dip back in the ocean. The weekend proved flat for any and all surf activities. Hopefully we'll still have some remains to play with today but I'm not sure they'll survive the morning. We'll see.

Barrie and I made our way down to our local Muvico theater on Friday night to catch Sin City, a gritty, dark comic book-esque movie. The cinematography was outstanding. A good movie overall though I probably wouldn't buy it.

Well, WetSand changed their swell model for the next few days. Now it looks like Monday won't be as good as I thought for surf but there is a small swell coming early next week. So all we can do is hope. The weekend is looking absolutely flat so get your fix in now.

And no, it's nothing like the short bus. Took my 6'5" Lost "Speed Demon" out last night for the first time in a while. It took me a while to get used to it again. After some clumsy drops I finally got the hang of it and scored quite a few nice little rides.

Last nights' planned surf session was once again non existent. The Atlantic looked like a lake from Deerfield up to Jupiter. No waves left at all. So I ventured over to Dan's house for a couple rum and cokes and to begin planning our trip to Costa Rica (Playa Grande) and Nicaragua (San Juan del Sur) in July. A 10 day surfing trip. I can't wait!

After yesterday's session, today would just be a bonus but it's not looking anywhere near that so far. Surfline is calling for 2-3 footers but the cams look fairly small. I'll keep an eye on it throughout the day and Ramil's giving me the report around 3. My only concern now is dead high tide is 5:18pm, just about the same time I'll be getting in the water. Now I just hope the swell holds up.

Holy shit, 8ft waves in Delray! Easily over head high on the outside sets. No need to venture up north for the swell. I caught three outstanding rides on probably the biggest waves I've ever dropped in on, as well as several other wipe out rides. Talk about putting a smile on my face. I was grinning from ear to ear like a little kid!
