Family's Coming Down

Jun 03, 2008 by Damien | Add comment |
Looks like my house is going to occupied by more than just me for a while come next week. My twin sister’s coming down with a friend of hers for a little under a week next Thursday. It’ll be good to see her. Then right after she leaves my little brother Micheal is coming down for a month and a half if not more. Looks like I’ve gotta help him find a job once he gets here but hopefully it won’t be too hard. He wants to work in a local bar as a bar-back so I’ve got to start asking around. Luckily there’s no shortage of bars around here.

Needless to say I’m a little apprehensive but he’s family and I know if I could come down to Florida and live with my older brother for a summer, I’d be stoked. I’m sure it’ll be great. He’ll have to get used to the couch but it should be cool.

Memorial Day Weekend

Overall a pretty good weekend. Seems like I'm a bit "grilled" out but it was definetly a cool relaxing weekend for a change. Friday night was happy hour with Jo and her co-workers down at Nobles. It would be a great place if I was still a smoker but fortunately I'm not. It's the only place in downtown you can sit in a bar and smoke so the place just reeks of smoke. After that it was off to Roccos for a bite then up to O'Sheas for a finisher.

Saturday was a slow start but decided to hit the pool. Chad, my neighbor invited me over to the grill and the weekend of eating way too much food began. We grilled out Saturday, Sunday and Monday for both lunch and dinner every day. All the while we were sunning ourselves by the pool and drinking beer. Can't get much more relaxing than that.

Monday night we had a big blowout with several neighbors in the building, large spread of food like chicken, steak, ribs, potato salad. Hell I even made Skyline Dip! By then nobody was really putting the beers away since we were all pretty much tired from the entire weekend in the sun.

I honestly think I put on like 5 pounds over the course of four days. Ah well, back to the grind and back to the gym!

Busy busy!

Been super busy over the last few days so I apologize for the slow news lately. I can't seem to find time to get this thing updated. I'm in the middle of a redesign and I've got projects galore coming to me from all over. At least I'm not bore I guess, things could be worse. I've been doing so much work in fact that my laptop battery finally died on me. Or at least it was in the process of dying on me.

Last night I took the lappy into the Apple Store to see if they'd replace it. Turns out the battery was defective and was beginning to swell out of it's case. Luckily they replaced it free of charge, which would have been $110 had I paid out of pocket.

In other technology news my Blackberry is seriously on my last nerve. The small bracket that holds the sim card broke off and now every other time I check my phone I get a damn "SIM CARD ERROR" and it wont' let me do anything. So if you call, leave a voice mail since I sometimes can't tell if I missed you or not. I'm hoping to hold out for the new iPhones which should be coming around June 9th but I doubt this POS is going to last that long. It's going off the balcony by then I'm sure.

The weekend was pretty crazy and probably not appropriate for family reading. Anyway, thats the update.

Minor Head Trama and Surf

May 15, 2008 by Damien | Add comment |
Last night West Palm Beach was blessed with some nice sized surf. Most sets were in the 5-6 foot range with standout sets in the 8 foot range. West Palm is known for being kind of quick on the drop but it was pretty fun. Caught one barrel, though I was unable to make it out the other side before the whole think caved in on me. Several really fun rides and a few really hard wipeouts. One was so bad I think I actually had a minor concussion. I got home from surfing and had a conversation with Scott the security guard and was having a real hard time explaining myself. Had a splitting headache on the left side of my dome and was really nausseous. Thought I was retarded for about two hours or so.

Today we had a bit more of the same though it wasn't nearly as huge as yesterday. Still quite fun though and no concussion! Though I was chased out of the water by a four foot shark, haha. Guess I didn't pay my rent on time eh? We call sharks the "landlords".

A Week Later

Yeah, I know... a full week later and I really don't have an update for the site. To be honest with you I had a pretty good weekend but really nothing to write home about. Work's been busy and my evenings have been fairly busy as well.

Really just having one of those weeks where it feels like I don't have any friends around any more. So I've just been keeping myself busy with work and little freelance jobs here and there. Good boy during the week and an absolute drunk on the weekends. Not really something to brag about... but that's what happens when I get bored. I really gotta stop doing that. Feels like I'm looking for the next girl in all the wrong places. Wrong places. Wrong places.

Whatever. Sorry for the crappy post.

Sunfest is Finally Over

Black Crowes play at sunfest
Yeah, it was five days of fun, sun and probably too much booze but you know. Pretty much at least one concert every night. Friday night was about the only night where I didn't really see the show I wanted but hey, you can't win 'em all. Saturday night was the Black Crowes which was pretty good. Thursday I saw Good Charlotte while a dozen screaming teanage girls screamed the lyrics to every song whily standing pretty much right behind me. Kind of made listening to the band a bit difficult. Last night Ramil, Rulon (Ramil's son) and I went down to the Matisyahu concert. Chill and laid back though the crowd was a bit tough to get through.

Overall it was a pretty good art and music festival. I think I'll probably only get a two day pass next year. By the fifth day I was so beat and tired it took some time to get moving. Also everything down there is so expensive. $6 draft beer, $7-$8 rum and cokes and that's all they really had. Lots of festival food but none of it was impressive.

I'll try and get the photos up as soon as I can. Maybe tonight if I have time.

It's Cinco de Mayo

Yup, and I'm not drinking! Shocker, I know. After 5 straight days of sunfest I'm pretty much liquored out.

Iron Man Rocked!

Loved this movie. More gadgets and streamlined cool than you can possibly imagine. Robert Downy Jr. is witty and a man after my own heart. Well, for the most part anyway. They did a great job telling the story of Iron Man while keeping everything intact.

Several times in the theater I just wanted to let out a "hell yeah" which is rare in any movie I watch. I've already signed up to receive this on via Netflix the moment it comes out. You ow it to yourself, especially if you were a fan of the comic books as I was, to go an see this one. It won't disappoint.

Two words - Gadget Porn.

I Think I Want A Puppy

Apr 29, 2008 by Damien | 1 Comment |
Yeah, I know, me and a dog. I've been a loner pretty much all my life and to bring a pet in and give me responsibility over another living thing (other than a plant) is a surprise. Well, maybe not that much of a surprise. I know there is lots of research to be done in finding the right one. Of course I'm sure I'll have to put a pet deposit on my place but after some careful initial research I think I've found the perfect pup for me. A red Boston Terrier (pictured). They don't get any bigger than 25lbs, they're tough and extremely intelligent. They do snore and fart alot but then again don't we all. Ok, well me anyway, haha. They're perfect apartment dogs that don't bark much if at all. They remain fairly inactive when indoors. One tough spot would be potty training as this can sometimes be difficult because of they're intelligence. They're almost too smart for their own good.

The tough part is now really finding a breeder without defect, etc. It could take a 6 months to a year to find the right little guy but I'm in no hurry. I'd just love to have a little companion around that's not a dainty dog, lots of personality and just wants nothing more than to hang out with me. If I get him as a puppy he could be around for up to 15 years.
