Not much really remained yesterday around 5:30. Small knee high rollers though they were lining up nicely. Of course all of them had to be rights so goofy footers like me weren’t happy either way. Once I got down there I immediately realized I’d brought the wrong board for the job. The fish was good for a few rides but there wasn’t enough power to make any of them last. The drift was really bad, almost walking speed down the beach so there was a lot of walking back up to start the rotation all over again. Today it’s looking very flat and all traces are pretty much gone. The wind has shifted to offshore so that kills any hopes of wind chop in the near future. Looks like the place to be right now would be the Carolinas and Northern Florida....

Wow, a big change in just a day. Tropical storm one day and complete flatness the next. This is what Boca’s South Beach Pavilion looks like right now. Barely a ripple in the water and sunny as hell, just minor thunderstorm brewing to the south (right)....

Well, it’s 1pm and I’m already back in the office. Yeah, the big storm fizzled out to nothing more than a tropical depression for Palm Beach County. The latest satellite imagery shows it to still resemble a hurricane and to be honest, the bulk of the storm hasn’t even reached us yet. It’s basically spinning over Ft. Lauderdale right now and doing nothing more than dropping some rain. The bright side is I got to go surfing right after work yesterday. When everyone else was boarding up their homes and standing in lines at grocery stores and gas stations, I...

Ernesto is just about to make landfall in Miami in the next few hours and then slowly head north dumping massive amounts of rain. As of noon today it’s still a tropical storm with sustained winds around 45 mph. What it does in the next few hours will dictate how it will effect us here in Palm Beach County. After hitting the warm waters of the Gulf Stream it could strengthen and become a category 1 or 2 hurricane by tonight. Because of it’s overall slow moving speed it’s really drenching the effected areas and flooding is the primary concern....

Not the storm… but the idiots and panicking crowds. I just ran out to the bank to cash a refund check from Nissan and there are lines around the block for most if not all local gas stations. Holy shit people, it isn’t the end of the world. We’ve all done this before, calm down and act normal. Or as normal as you can I guess. The local grocery stores are already out of water in some places and I heard Home Depot is a happening place to be. The current models as of noon today still have it heading...

Even though I’m feeling a litte under the weather (thanks Jo for sharing your sinus infection) here are some photos from the One Love Concert. I went to see Buju Banton, but by the time I left he still hadn’t taken the stage…. and that was 2am....

It’s the first named threatening storm of the season for us in South Florida. Over the weekend tropical storm Ernesto was downgraded from a hurricane back to tropical storm status. It’s expected to regain some strength after it passes over the mountains of Cuba. As you can see the cone of expected landfall is pretty big though we’re definitely going to be getting this one. No doubt it’ll cause this to be a very long week indeed. The only bright side, sick as it may sound, is that we’ll finally get some surf....

….for mystical magical moments. I’m strongly reminded of that this morning as last night was the Native Remedies company dinner at a nice Italian restaurant in Delray. I forget the name of it but it’s right next to Sazio’s on Atlantic. So, we’re all feeling a little “slow” today. I think it was the Grand Marnier for dessert that put me over the top… or it could have been the three Johnny Walker Black’s during dinner. Who knows. What I do know is the photos I took last night at dinner didn’t come out very well at all. I’ve got...
