I’m digging the new gig so far though I’m still adjusting to a few things. Later hours, Palm Beach traffic and wearing dress shoes to work are among a few. The crew I’m working with all seem pretty cool and I can honestly say I’ve laughed out loud at least once every day so far. Starbucks is a daily trip and a constant adventure. My first run down to the coffee giant turned up a dud for poor Bill (the Boss). What the hell is a Arnold Palmer? Tea and lemonade? My bad. The office is just off of Clematis so lunch seems to be another adventure every day. Today it was J-Shore’s which turned out to be alright. Bacon cheeseburger and fries. Though the service was a bit slow, the food wasn’t half bad. Yesterday Bill took me to Bonds for a curry wrap. Different but interesting. I still have yet to catch a dawn patrol in Palm Beach. Partly because the surf’s been choppy and full of critters (sea lice and jellyfish) and partly becuase I’m still not sure how much time I’ve got between surf and work to get a good session in. After pretty much doing anything but cleaning up my place yesterday, I needed to get out of the house and check the surf. I headed to Delray around 2pm and was pleasantly surprised. Chest to head high surf and the tide was falling so it kept getting bigger and bigger. The outside sets were working but they were a bit inconsistent. Not the wake up call I was expecting this morning. This one was much better. Ramil and his wife Carmen are now the parents of a happy, healthy little baby boy. Huge congrats on the new addition guys, I know you’re totally stoked. I got the call about 10 minutes ago (it’s around 8:30am) and Ramil’s never sounded happier. Carmen gave birth at 2:45 this morning after about 45 minutes of natural labor. He said she was a real trooper everything went well, she’s already up and walking around giddy as hell. It seems I’m continuing some kind of tradition since I’ve been in Florida. Thanksgiving lunch on the beach and surf. Yesterday was no exception. Unfortunately the local surf was much smaller than expected so I made my way up to Ft. Peirce. At high tide the surf was chest to head high and lots of fun. I actually had my first Ft. Luckily today was a short day so I was able to hit Palm Beach for the first time, after work. Nice clean lines coming in out of the north east. Most sets were small but a few standout sets came in around 3-4 ft. Once dead low hit the consistency dropped off but it was about sunset anyway. Cold as hell was the word for the day. Ok…. words. I felt like I was freezing my ass off all day. Definitely one of the coldest days I’ve had in the last two and a half years of being down here.... Continue Reading

The surf could be ideal on Turkey day this year. I’m sure the temperatures are going to be little chilly for around here but that won’t scare me off the beach. Considering it’s 41 degrees right now in South Florida. Yeah, I said 41 degrees (hey it’s also 6:35am). For some reason I had trouble sleeping last night. It usually happens when I can’t either make some bit of code work or I’m trying to figure out why it’s not working. Today marked the first day at Boalt.com. I woke up at the usual time since I went to bed last night around 9:30 like an old man. So, of course I arrived at the office like an hour earlier than I was supposed to but no big deal. The day was a busy one to say the least. I basically worked on getting to know the systems, hooking up to the networks and just generally getting acclimated. I’ve got to get used to working till 6pm instead of 5.
