Happy Halloween!

Have a safe and scary Halloween everyone! Man, that sounded boney but ah well. Not much in the news column today going on other than the dark holiday.
Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in).
The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31, they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. In addition to causing trouble and damaging crops, Celts thought that the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it easier for the Druids, or Celtic priests, to make predictions about the future. For a people entirely dependent on the volatile natural world, these prophecies were an important source of comfort and direction during the long, dark winter.
Sunday’s 2-4 Feet In Delray

So after an extremely lazy weekend I pulled my ass off the couch and hit Delray on Sunday around 1. It was breaking on the outside at least 3 feet on most sets and some came through at should height. For some reason as the tide dropped the waves began to crap out and were beginning to mush out. Pat and Ramil joined me for a bit before it finally crapped out.
The upcoming week looks to be exciting for surf as the new tropical storm approaches. It’s forecasted not to hit us directly but remain off coast and dump a ton of rain on the Bahamas. Which is awesome as it’ll have plenty of time to organize into ground swell (hopefully) and send us some phenomenal surf. Keep your eyes on the Weather Channel, its going to be a fun week in the water once it grows closer.
A Letter From The IRS

Oh, this should be good, I thought to myself as I picked up my mail yesterday. It turns out the IRS wants more money because my 2005 tax return was off… by $1,682. Now at first I was dumbfounded but reading further I know exactly what happened. Now it’s just a matter of gathering the proper paperwork to fix it (hopefully).
In 2005 I purchased this shit-hole condo I’m now living in and to do so I had to take out a temporary loan from an IRA, which is totally legal and TAX FREE if paid back in 30 days. In fact it was paid back in less than 30 days and according to my last investment statement the money did make it back to my account. So what the hell happened? I think the investment company either filed it incorrectly or missed my deadline for me for some reason. Money held up in paperwork, hell I don’t know. But it looks like I’ve got to find out. Wish me luck.
Kicking In My Own Door

Ok, so this is irritating. A couple months ago (or sooner) my place was broken into and luckily they didn’t get away with much more than a really really nice camera and a portion of my dignity. After that I had a new door and lock put on my front door to keep this kind of thing from happening again.
Last night I was in my normal routine. Got home, changed, hopped on my skateboard and locked the door behind me and skated down to the main office where the mail boxes are. Upon my return to my front door the key would not work. I didn’t lock the bolt like, thank god. After messing with it for about 15 minutes my frustration got the better of me and I put my foot to work. Once kick, and not eve a very hard one, and the door was open, door jam around the knob busted to pieces.
The first kick I thought I’d just give a feel to see what it would take to open it so I didn’t really put any power into it at all, but that’s all it took to pop that son of a bitch right open. Now I don’t know whether to be upset with the shoddy installation by CK’s or the busted door. It was either cut the screen in back and go through the back door or pop the door open.
It turns out the installation was done improperly and the door lock wasn’t put together right at all causing it to malfunction and to my surprise I’m not the only one this happened to in the complex. At least I still have a bolt lock for the front door right now though to be honest I’m a little wary of it’s strength against the wind at this point, let alone a swift kick.
The Visit

The weekend was pretty cool. I picked up Mom at 11pm on Sunday and took Monday off to spend some time with her and her friend Missy. Woke up fairly early on Monday morning and headed down to the beach to catch some rays, and possibly some waves if available. There were some minor traces coming in so I ran home quickly to grab the longboard. It was barely rideable but at least she got a chance to see me surf for the first time.
We then went to lunch at the Old Key Lime House and then back to my pool for some more sun. On the way to the drop off point (the place on Alligator Alley where her friends from the west coast met us) I took them down to Sawgrass Mills outlet mall before they took off for Marco Island.
It was good as always to see her. Friday’s going to be busy though. Gotta get down to Alligator Alley to pick her and then off to the airport once again.
