Apple In-Ear Headphones: The Follow Up

Yeah, so I ‘ve come to the conclusion that my little ears just aren’t meant for these buggers. I’ve tried several different headphones over the years and the only ones absolutely love are the Bose Over-Ear Headphones which I wear all day at work. I can’t really wear those to the gym or to run with without looking like a complete tool, haha.

I guess later this afternoon I’ll have to make yet another trip back up to the Apple Store to return them and hopefully pick up a new pair that’ll stay in my ears a bit better when running.

These actually come with three different size rubber attachments to fit most ears but my ears just seem to reject every size. I can’t even jam them in and make them fit, they simply slide right out after about 20 steps and that’s the whole problem. We’ll see what I can find I guess. Until then I’m back to the good ole’ stand by’s that came with my beloved iPhone.

Dry-cleaning Woes

Posted on January 23, 2009

Dry CleaningOver the years I’ve had pretty good luck with my dry-cleaners. Only twice have they completely messed things up and once they lost a pair of pretty expensive pants but hey, I guess this world isn’t full of smart people like I’d always hoped [hope you get the sarcasm].

I go to Sunshine Cleaners, rather they come to me. Very convenient for sure, as they deliver my dry-cleaning to my building and pick it up as well so all I have to do is pay a monthly tab and drop my stuff off at the front desk in a nifty little red bag.

Here’s where they went wrong.. I think. They picked up my stuff last Wednesday (or Thursday, it’s irrelevant) and in order for me to send more stuff their way I need that little red bag. Day after day I’ve been asking the front desk if they’d delivered anything….nothing. And they’ve made several stops here as well. So… wtf?

As it turns out they put my stuff in with someone else’s stuff from the building and luckily for me the recognized the problem and dropped my stuff at the front desk (without the bag). At least I got my shirts back but I’m still left with a pile of shirts yet to be cleaned. What kind of bothers me is the girls at the front desk never thought to look for stuff without a tag when I asked for my dry-cleaning, even though I asked like a dozen times. My stuff was back there the whole time.

Now I just need to call up Sunshine Cleaners and rip them a new one. Hey, they got it coming… don’t judge me, monkey.

What Do You Think? (The Twitter Question)

Posted on January 22, 2009

twitterificOk, so I’m just going to ask and hope for a response. What do you guys think about the twitter feed on the right of my site…you know right next to my handsome photo –>

Just curious. I’m not a big fan of “following people” on twitter and I really only subscribed and installed the apps/plugin’s to better update this site with what is “the life of Damien Komala” and all it’s boring splendor.

I guess I should explain what following is on Twitter. Basically you can follow your friends or colleagues on here and every time they update their feeds it updates yours with what they’re up to. If you follow too many people this can get annoying as you don’t need to know everything and some people (Dave) get a little carried away with it.

So for now I’m just using it as a quick update tool for the site. If you want to follow me on twitter here’s the link. If not, no worries, you probably don’t want to know what I had for breakfast anyway.

In short I’d be interested in hearing what you think. The comments are always open so feel free to leave one. That’s what they’re there for.

note: image link above takes you to the app store where you can download Twitterific for your iPhone.

In-Ear Headphones from Apple

I know you guys are probably tired of hearing me go on and on about my apple laptop/iPhone/lifestyle but hey… get over it. I love this stuff, it’s like a technology cult and I’ve been a card carrying member since 1996.

So anyway, last night while I was getting the whole iPhone thing sorted out I decided to break down and buy some in-ear headphones for it that won’t just fall out of my ears while I run, walk, yoga, whatever. My buddy Phil turned me on to these little marvels and now that I have them, let me tell you the sound is really good. Also, because they’re in-ear they cancel out much of the surrounding noise and let you enjoy the music in your own little world. The come with the standard click/control feature which allows you to skip, repeat, go back while you’re listening to your music and also a single click will answer a phone call when one comes in.

I’m going to be giving these guys a “running test” try tonight at the gym. So tired of spending most of my workout adjusting my earbuds – these should do the trick.

New iPhone! Again!

Posted on January 21, 2009

iPhone 3GWhew, after weeks of calls dropping on my phone I finally decided enough was enough. I restored the phone twice from iTunes backups and still the problem persisted. So tonight I headed up to Palm Beach Gardens Mall to the Apple Store to see if they could take a look at it.

At first they wanted me to make an appointment with the Genius Bar but the first available time slot (after 6pm) was Friday around 6:47. Screw that! So I persisted until they gave me a temporary slot in-between other customers. Kind of like stand-by on an airplane.

I was in luck when after about 15 minutes I was called over. Nice. He plugged it in and basically said, “yup, it’s the phone. You’ve had a 30% call drop rate since you restored it on the 18 so it’s definitely the phone. I’ll give you a new one bro!”

So stoked. He said one of the reasons he was just going to give me a new one is because I’m in the top 2% that actually uses the phone for everything, and an application called Omnifocus.

Now I just spent about an hour and half restoring the phone and so far it’s perfect, back to the way it was. Full music, application data, etc. Now I just hope the call thing gets better or I’ll have to make another trip back, haha. Cross your fingers.
