Tron made something like 43 million this weekend. Though there are some not so great reviews out there I thought it was awesome. If you’re a true Tron fan from the 80′s movie there are so many things to love about this movie. Lots of tie-ins to the original, fantastic effects, amazing soundtrack by Daft Punk and Olivia Wilde….who wouldn’t love this movie. I had a chance last night to catch it in 3D at the IMAX at City Place here in West Palm Beach. I got lucky and picked one of the last great seats right in the middle (since you had to pick seats). Wow, I loved this movie. The only thing I didn’t like was the digital version of Jeff Bridges as “Clu”. I understand the premis but the characters face just didn’t some out clean and believable. Reminded me too much of Beowulf’s crappy animation when they talked. They should have kept his helmet closed for most of the scenes just to keep that menacing property. I just became distracted by the poor animation quality in making Jeff Bridges look young again. Regardless, I’ll be seeing this movie again before it leaves the theater and the second it comes out on DVD….it’s going in the Library. If you saw (and remember) Tron from the 80′s this is a must see. And to all those bad reviews out there…you probably haven’t seen the first Tron so suck it.

Last night I finally made it over to Muvico to catch the new Iron Man movie. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it but the lull in the middle was a bit long. Sam Rockwell’s character “Hammer” was a bit over the top annoying. Whiplash played by Mickey Rourke was especially disturbing but very well done. They even poked a little jab at Captain America (which no one in my theater got at all so I laughed by myself). The appearance of Don Cheadle as Rhody was a good change. Scarlett Johansen was also a fantastic addition to the movie. My favorite aspect of the movie was Rhody in the War Machine suite. Simply put… bad ass. The final half hour was non stop action that thankfully put the story building on hold. So in closing, of course it’s going in my Library. Not quite as good as the first one but very close.

I finally received this movie via Netflix over the weekend. It was a sweet little movie but not as good as the book I remembered as a kid. The little kid is kind of a brat and most of the movie was kind of sad. Life lessons, etc but the Wild Things were so well done. The costumes and character development was really kind of cool. I think more kids probably liked this over the adults though it does kind of conjure up memories of being a wild little kid. Overall a good flick but it probably won’t make it into the DVD library.

Stunning visual effects and a pretty good story line, though the previews do give away quite a bit if you pay attention. It’s definitely a must see movie. I’m not sure about the “future of movies” comment everyone seems to be making. It’s an evolution of how movies are made but it’s still a movie never the less. The overall production cost of Avatar was 300 million and it made over 274 million on opening weekend… not bad at all. If you have a chance to catch this visual stunner before it leaves theaters definitely do so. You won’t be disappointed. Avatar The Movie

I know we’ve got it pretty good down here but with the total lack of surf the weekends have become somewhat mundane and boring (can’t wait to get a bike for something else to do). So I decided to catch The Hangover, a hilarious movie about a bachelor party in Vegas. It was awesome, wish I’d seen it earlier. I walked down to Muvico by myself and got a great seat and took it all in. By far the best part of the movie was the rolling credits, which sounds odd but it explains the entire “missing” bachelor party. Basically none of the characters remember what the hell happened to them the night before, the groom is missing, there’s a baby in the closet, a tiger in the bathroom and a tiny Asian man in their trunk. Yeah, it’s a riot. Make sure you see the Hangover before it’s out of the theaters, otherwise you’ll just have to wait till it comes out on DVD.

I had a chance last night to hit the movies and catch the new Transformers Movie and to be honest with you it was a bit of a let down. Could have been my mood too, I guess. One screaming baby and a couple of “won’t shut up” teenagers behind me. But it was entertaining. The action was amazing and of course, so where the special effects but the storyline and a couple new characters made me feel like I was watching a cartoon, not a movie…and could Micheal Bay bay blow up more stuff [sarcasm]. The primary cast was pretty good but a couple just got on my nerves (like the main character’s parents). Overall it was pretty good and I may add it to the library just to add one to the set. Bringing back the ancient JetFire was badass even though it didn’t follow his original story line (from the cartoon). Also, Meghan Fox was stunning as usual so at least there was something sexy to look at. Now if only we could keep people from bringing babies to the movie theater. Who’s bright idea was that anyway?
