Thanksgiving was a bit different this year…in a good way. Of course Wednesday night before the big day was a drunken shitshow (as usual) but we had a great time. Thursday I headed to Boston Market and got Thanksgiving lunch, no big deal. Our friend Rosy invited us (Brant and I) to Jupiter for dinner with her and Regina. They’re a great bunch of friends and we always have great time. Thanks guys for making Thanksgiving something to remember. Of course hitting Dirty Martini in PGA on the way home made parts hard to remember but I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. So much fun!

The holiday weekend was one for the books. A full day of boating with new friends over at Peanut Island, swimming, drinking and an all around great time. Sunday was happy hour up in PGA and Sunday night was another downtowner with friends. This is a shot of the boat we took out. My buddy is in the Boat Club so he gets a selection of boats to reserve a few times a month so this could be a regular occurrence. Nice! I could do that every weekend for sure – thanks Brant!

Last weekend was a great time. I pretty much laughed the entire time hanging out with neighbors. By the time Monday the 4th actually rolled around it had begun to catch up with me but hey, we all need recuperation days. Loads of pooltime, morning bloody Mary’s and margaritas. I didn’t bring the camera out so no shots this time but it was a great time. Longboards turned out to be a really cool spot and the street event on the 2nd was a good time. They had a half-pipe in the middle of the street loaded with skateboarders and a slew of vintage cars on display. Very cool. It was also open bar…sort of. They’d give you handful of glassy pebbles and each one was worth a drink. Appetizers were wondering around like ribs, oysters and chicken wings. My personal favorite was the overall selection of vintage surfboards on the walls….well that and the fact the back patio was all sand! Yes, the beach is now on Clematis. The fireworks were short but not too bad. Nothing like we have back home in Cincinnati for the WEBN Labor Day Fireworks down on the Ohio River but still entertaining. Overall a very eventful and crazy weekend.

Last weekend was a great time. I had a few friends over and it was time to make some of my famous margaritas from scratch. We even went down to Rocco’s to compare mine and theirs and to be honest, mine was voted hands down the best one they’ve ever had, haha. I took a ton of photos while we were in the building. Visited Alex for his birthday and even ran into my buddy Brian for a moment. Overall the night turned into a semi-black-out-shit-show but man, it was a good time. If you want to see the photos…you know where to go.

Walking down to the gym today I noticed this sign up on the building a few doors down from Oshea’s (used to be Ray’s house of Blues). My buddy Gene has been working all week for the grand opening on July 2nd, chock full of long boards, great food and music (hopefully). Hey if it’s anything like Kahuna’s in Deerfield beach I’ll be stoked! The idea is promising and right up my alley. Vintage longboards on the walls, a surfboard shaped bar and the fact it’s less than a 500 feet from my front door… well the odds are looking good. The 500 block in front of Oshea’s and my house will be shut down on the 2nd for the big shin-dig. This should be interesting!

Well, May is finally over and to be honest, that’s a good thing. It’s been a tough few months and now that the Rover is gone it’s time to start getting this shit back together again. I’m still trying to sort out what I’m going to do with this blog. Facebook, FourSquare and Twitter have kind of taken over the original purpose of the DamienKomala.com blog so it’s tough to be motivated to sit down and write what’s up on here. I’m considering turning it into a photo blog of just random stuff I see around town similar to a fellow local Tweeter, aGuyOnClematis. That actually seems a bit easier and probably more fun than keeping an ongoing written blog up to date. Work is still going well with Sesame Communications in Seattle and I’ve been scaling back freelance jobs pretty much to the point of not taking on anymore projects. When you’re building 6-10 websites every two weeks you get a bit burnt out, believe me. Still no girl in my life aside from those a thousand miles away in Puerto Rico but there’s not much I can do about that. The weekend did yield an old friend of the building returning for a few days. My friend Chad’s ex girlfriend from Boston came in to visit Bob and Mary. I took a few photos of the little event over at the Whitehead’s. That was a good time. Most weekends have been filled with simply drinking and relaxing by the pool which you really can’t complain about. The lack of surf still sucks but I can’t decide which is worse, no surf or having perfect surf and no way to get the boards to the beach. I’ve tried both and I’m fairly apathetic about the whole thing. So, welcome June…may the sweltering summer days bring better times.
