One of Those Mornings

Sometimes it just doesn’t pay to get out of bed in the morning. I woke up at 6:30 this morning only to find my wireless network was kind of buggy. Renamed the network, reset the password and adjusted the damn wireless router in my closet… still no speed. Then I disconnected the the thing a few times, took the laptop into the closet and it’s quick as hell.
Once I got back to my desk, still slow as fuck. What the hell! It’s only 15 feet away! So now it’s sitting on a stool in my closet door just peeking around the corner and finally I get a quick network. The wireless network itself seems to be strong according to my Airport signal but every time I move the damn router it’s slow as hell.
I guess I’ll be working like this today. Screw it, it has to be done, haha. Goes to show you sometimes you just can’t reach it….

Today was no exception. After a pretty decent weekend I woke up this morning and rode out to my CPA on PGA Blvd to pick up my taxes. The bike’s been running odd lately so I was just taking it easy.
As I pull off the exit for PGA I downshifted to first, then neutral (my bike doesn’t show what gear it’s in). Neutral felt kind of loose to get in the shifter under my left foot was acting weird. So I took off in first and tried to go to second when nothing… it wouldn’t shift. The entire pedal assembly had lost a bolt so pulling the shifter up did nothing.
Ensue cussing… After pulling over I walked back about a half mile or more to the exit and looked for the bolt. I found two along the walk and somehow one actually fit. It wasn’t the one I lost but it fit so I picked my taxes up and headed home….gently. Picked up a bolt from the bike shop on the way home and finally got it all put back together.
What a nightmare. The damn Gremlins are pulling my bike apart!

Found this on the Chive and it made me smile so I thought I’d share with all you good people…unless you use IE6 and in that case upgrade already would you!?

Yeah, today was kind of interesting. After a quick ride out to the beach yesterday doing just a surf check the bike began acting up once again. Mother fucker! So when I finally got the SV650 home I called the bike shop. They were kind of swamped so I said I’d take it in this morning.
So I head down to the garage and fire it up, completely expecting it to not run well but oddly it ran just fine. I decided to head over to the shop anyway and see if it would act up on the ride over….nothing. After a quick conversation with the mechanic I decided to just put some fuel treatment in the tank in hopes it would help.
Autozone is only a few blocks away so I headed over there and dropped some fuel treatment in the tank and immediately it began acting up once again. Back to the shop to drop it off but just as I get there it runs just fine once again….son of a bitch!
I decided to leave it there and just have them run it on the dynamometer and hopefully they’ll find and fix the problem.
The bike shop is about three miles away and I wasn’t about to pay a damn cab driver $15 for a three mile ride. Fuck that. So I bit the bullet and walked back.
Glad That’s Over

Wow, there are stressful weeks and there are stressful weeks. This week was to be a hair graying week for sure.
With two sites due by Wednesday noon and a full site design comp I had a ton of work to get done in two and half days. On top of that I found out my motorcycle had a flat back tire. It was a brand new tire (3-4 months old) so I must have ridden over something nasty, good thing it was a slow leak.
Now having a flat in a car is fairly simple, put the spare on and drive to a shop and get a new one. Not so with a motorcycle. Since it’s my only transportation it brought up some unique issues with such a dilemma. One, no way to get it to the shop and in my case, no tools in which to change it.
Luckily I had driven Vince’s girlfriend and kids to the airport on Monday morning so he let me borrow his ride to solve my issue. So I went up to cycle gear and purchased all I’d need to change it. A bike rack (raises the back wheel off the ground), the tire itself and since I was there I got all the necessary items for an oil change as well. One problem…no sockets. So it was off to AutoZone for a 22mm socket (since that’s what the guy told me I needed). I bought a 21 and 22mm… neither fit so I went back and got a 23mm…. no luck there either. Finally I just got a set and said screw it. Of course it took four trips to get it right but I could finally get the wheel off.
Now to take the wheel off you have to take the axle off, remove the chain and brake assemblies and then it was back to the shop. Once that was done it was a challenge to put it all back together the same way it came apart…what fun. In between all of this I gave myself an oil change. Keep in mind during this entire time I have three deadlines on my mind so every trip to the store was also costing me money and precious time. Just a little stressful.
It’s all back together now and running fine and I was able to meet all deadlines but man, I’m glad that was over. A couple 12 hour days and some serious eye strain will do it. At least I now know how to service my bike and change the dreaded back tire. Hope your week was better than mine.
