What’s Been Going On?
Geez, sorry for the lack of posts recently. Long weekends like that you’d think I’d be all over this thing but I’ve gotten lazy in my old age I guess. Post New Years – after suviving yet another mediocre New Years I finally got to surf on Friday, whoo hoo! Jupiter was calling for 2-3 ft but it was nearly 4-5 ft on a lot of sets. Kite Beach was bombing and all I had with me was the longboard. Which, as it turns out, was a bitch to get out past the breakers but after much work I punched through. After that it was just a matter of bailing on the wave before you get caught inside the break again and have to battle your way back. I caught a ton of rides and ended the day after three hours of hard surf with a grin. Friday night I headed down to Boca to hang with my friend Jo and the rest of the Brazilians. Saturday was bouncing around Delray with my friend D. I even got to run into Kristine and Ramil in the process so it was a good time. Sunday was a nothing day pretty much... Continue Reading

Thanksgiving [Eve]
First off I’m thankful for a short week. It’s only Wednesday but it feels like Friday, I love it. Not much planned for the glutenous holiday. This will mark the end of a five year tradition of having a turkey sandwich on the beach and surfing all day, which is pretty much the opposite of what everyone else is doing. Spending time with family in cold weather while I’m el solo on the beach surfing. I’m still checking the surf report as I haven’t totally given up yet but the forecast doesn’t look that good. We should have surf by... Continue Reading

Hoping for Some Surf
Well, we’re hoping for some surf but as of 6:30 tonight there wasn’t much to speak of. Surfline was calling for 3-4ft but as usual I couldn’t hit because of the 6pm work time. I had planned on getting up at 5:30 am, yeah that early, to make a dawn patrol out of tomorrow morning with Phil but I doubt it’s going to happen unless it picks up overnight. Looks as if I’ll still be getting up to check the cameras but more than likely I’ll be back in bed right after. There’s still hope.  ... Permalink

Gorgeous Weather and Possibly Some Surf
When I woke up this morning it was 50 degrees and the temperature is slowly but surely rising (it’s 56 now). It looks like it’s going to be another cloudless, gorgeous day and to top it all off we may have some surf as soon as tomorrow morning. Now it’s just a matter of getting my ass out of bed at 5:30 to get to the beach by 6, we’ll see if that actually happens. If it’s good it probably will but there’s no way of telling until I actually get down to the beach. Surfline’s calling for 3-4ft which... Continue Reading

Waist to Should High Surf at Flagpole
Sunday afternoon was the perfect time to hit the beach here in West Palm. The tide was dropping, the water was warm (though the air was about 65 and chilly as hell) and I had finally convinced my bro Phil to get his board out and join me. It’s getting dangerously close to full wetsuite season but it’s all good. I switched back and forth between my 8’4″ and my 7’7″ as the surf changed conditions. Tons of good lefts as the swell was coming out of the North East, most good sets right around the should high range. It... Continue Reading

West Palm is 63 Degrees of Cool
Ah, I absolutely love the weather lately. The last two days it’s been so nice outside, nothing above 68 degrees and sunny, oh so sunny. I had to dig out the suede jacket, awesome. It’s a little too chilly to go to the beach but the boys, Dan and Ramil have been hitting the surf the last few days and I’m sure they’re trying so hard not to rub it in. Only a couple downsides to the weather; I’m quickly running out of daylight to surf after work and my wrist has been throbbing and aching like I just broke... Continue Reading

That Was A Little Better
I decided to give it one more try this evening and see if the surf had gotten any better. Thank goodness it had or I’d be even more upset with Palm Beach surf conditions. 3′-5′ chop but it was much more organized than last night. The only ride you really got was a drop and maybe a turn but it was good to get in the water and actually catch a few. Not much wind and the drift wasn’t nearly as bad. I ran into a kid I met out at Oshea’s the other night named Oleg. He and his... Continue Reading

Crappy West Palm Beach Power Chop
There are days I love surfing and then there are evenings like last night. Four foot dumpy chop in Palm Beach, not lining up for anything but a pounding. I had three rides in 45 minutes. What a waste of time. I guess I got some exercise padding for waves that either pitched me over the lip or never broke at all. I hate surfing in Palm Beach sometimes and yearn for my favorite Delray. I miss that break. Palm Beach is punchy and not mellow like Delray. I’m not an extreme surfer and I generally won’t ride a shortboard.... Continue Reading

Wind Blown Chop in West Palm
Right after work I decided to check the surf at Flagpole here in Palm Beach. Really drifty and blown out 4-5 footers and overall it looked like a complete mess. Such a mess, in fact, that I didn’t even take my board out of the car nor did I even change into swim trunks. I had checked the surf report earlier in the day on my iPhone and it said 5-6 foot and poor+ conditions. There were two guys in the water giving it a go but they really weren’t catching much. That and the fact that they were drifting... Continue Reading
