Finally, iPhone 3.1.2 Update Is Out

…now if it works I’ll be happy. Lately my (beloved) iPhone has been going to sleep and not coming back without a hard reboot. Such a pain, and it even used to happen during phone calls. Which was odd since I couldn’t even hang up once the call was done.

The new 3.1.2 update promises to fix this little annoying issue (along with some others). So I’m running the update as I type.

There’s really only one way to find out. Run it and hope the issue doesn’t come back. If it does, you can bet I’ll be back on the Apple Forums looking for answers.

Where You’re Coming From

analytics

Through the magic of Google analytics I can pretty much tell where you’re coming from which is sometimes surprising. Like “who do I know in Texas, Utah and Louisiana? Not sure but welcome to my site!

I’ve been running this thing for years and aside from some bad relationship mistakes (writing about them on here) and hate mail it’s been fun.

If you’re reading this on Facebook there’s a good reason for it. This is actually coming from my personal blog at http://www.damienkomala.com/ , not originally written on Facebook. It’s a syndication thing I think but I digress.

I just wanted to say thanks to all you readers out there who think my single bachelor life is worth reading about. Wish I could put half the shit up here I’d like to but I’m sure the backlash for that stuff would be very bad, haha.

Have a great evening to everyone out there! Come back soon.

MyNameIsDamien.com – Site Redesign

Damien Komala's Online Portfolio Site

With the extra time I’ve been spending more and more time updating and polishing my online portfolio site in order to increase my odds of actually surviving this economic downturn. The site is a primary means of gathering possible freelance clientele and/or landing a new position as a Senior Designer/Developer at a South Florida web design firm.

The site includes examples of my work both in the design and development realms as well as planning and site maintenance projects. A full skill-set and resume are also included.

There are still quite a few adjustments that need to be made to the site but I am enjoying the direction it’s currently moving and I’m constantly working hard to better the site.

The New Landing Page

Posted on May 4, 2009

I’ve never been a big fan of landing pages, especially when it comes to SEO (search engine optimization) but in this case it’s a worthwhile sacrifice. I really needed an easy way to separate my personal from my profession life. This has become very important since I hope to meeting people and networking around so there may be people out there looking me up for freelance and employment positions. So, here comes the landing page.

I must apologize to my readers for the extra click to get into the blog but it’s a necessary evil at this point. There’s so much of myself on this blog I don’t want it to hinder my moving forward in my career any more than it has to. So I may be censoring myself a bit more than usual but it’s for a good cause.

As for how things are going as a full-time freelance designer, so far they’re pretty good. My friends in L.A. are sending me work and keeping me busy, which is awesome. Thanks guys!

My mindset is positive and I’m moving forward and thus far all of my friends have been extremely supportive and encouraging.

So if you visit the blog often just book mark this link and you’ll be dropped right on my blog.

My Ear Buds are Dying

earbuds

Kind of disappointing but I guess they did last quite some time, though for $30 you’d think they’d last a bit longer. Over the weekend something must have happened to them because now only the left one will actually play anything. Luckily (and strangely enough) the mic on the right side works just fine. Mic as in what you talk into when using the iPhone.

I practically live in these things when I’m not at work. Even when I’m home cooking dinner, working on my site, at the gym, even in the morning with my coffee getting ready I have them on. Especially my morning walk to work, I wear them everywhere. Now it’s just annoying to only hear in mono, it reminds me of when I was a kid with a little transistor radio (yeah, I had one) and only one earphone.

The first thing to go on the bud was the little rubber connection protector at the base of the plug in. Worn out from wrapping up and living in my pocket it finally gave out about a month ago. I have a feeling that was the beginning of the end. Second went the “clicker” that allows you to answer calls, skip songs, stop and play the music. Even when I pinched as hard as I could the damn thing rarely worked. Now with much effort I can end a call but that’s about it.

So once more it’s time to make a trip to the Apple Store to re-up on the earbuds. At least this time it’s only $30.

Even though I'm from Ohio I'm a die hard South Florida Surfer and beach guy. I picked up the sport over five years ago and never looked back. Any chance I get I'm in the water, which is sometimes rare considering that South Florida is fairly inconsistent with surf. Those days we do get are always a great gift.
