So, as you can probably tell by visiting the site in last week or so I’ve been quietly dealing with server issues. Most of which came about after updating to WordPress 3.1.1 and adding a plug-in called JetPack. Big mistake, especially when running a handful of WordPress sites on the same server cluster. Hopefully the issues have been alleviated but only time will tell. Thanks to the guys over at EZ-Web Hosting for getting it sorted out and rebooting my server when I couldn’t even get access to it. Just one more issue to deal with I guess. As you’re probably aware, when I don’t write there’s probably not much to write about. Facebook has taken my daily “blogging” outlet to a medium that I can share with my friends and family as well. I’m not sure what the future of this site is going to be but again, only time will tell. Hopefully life starts to ease up a bit and let me move around a bit and actually enjoy my day to day existence. Again, only time will tell.

It’s been so busy around here I haven’t had time to do anything with it (or update the blog for that matter). I did however get the full incorporation, corporate bank account and EIN which should save my ass come tax time. At least that’s what I’m hoping. All new clients and some old ones are all now going through Rockwell. After month, literally months of going over around 90 business names I kept coming back to Rockwell. It just rolls off the tongue and luckily http://www.rockwelldesignstudio.com was available. What luck! There’s nothing there at the moment. Yet another project for me to get rolling when I have time to think and my eyes aren’t burning out of my skull from staring at the computer screen. If I have time today I’ll try and get up a “coming soon” page before I really dive into design and development.

…now if it works I’ll be happy. Lately my (beloved) iPhone has been going to sleep and not coming back without a hard reboot. Such a pain, and it even used to happen during phone calls. Which was odd since I couldn’t even hang up once the call was done. The new 3.1.2 update promises to fix this little annoying issue (along with some others). So I’m running the update as I type. There’s really only one way to find out. Run it and hope the issue doesn’t come back. If it does, you can bet I’ll be back on the Apple Forums looking for answers.

If you’re reading this on Facebook there’s a good reason for it. This is actually coming from my personal blog at http://www.damienkomala.com/ , not originally written on Facebook. It’s a syndication thing I think but I digress. I just wanted to say thanks to all you readers out there who think my single bachelor life is worth reading about. Wish I could put half the shit up here I’d like to but I’m sure the backlash for that stuff would be very bad, haha. Have a great evening to everyone out there!
I’ve never been a big fan of landing pages, especially when it comes to SEO (search engine optimization) but in this case it’s a worthwhile sacrifice. I really needed an easy way to separate my personal from my profession life. This has become very important since I hope to meeting people and networking around so there may be people out there looking me up for freelance and employment positions. So, here comes the landing page. I must apologize to my readers for the extra click to get into the blog but it’s a necessary evil at this point. There’s so much of myself on this blog I don’t want it to hinder my moving forward in my career any more than it has to. So I may be censoring myself a bit more than usual but it’s for a good cause. As for how things are going as a full-time freelance designer, so far they’re pretty good. My friends in L.A. are sending me work and keeping me busy, which is awesome. Thanks guys! My mindset is positive and I’m moving forward and thus far all of my friends have been extremely supportive and encouraging. So if you visit the blog often just book mark this link and you’ll be dropped right on my blog.

Kind of disappointing but I guess they did last quite some time, though for $30 you’d think they’d last a bit longer. Over the weekend something must have happened to them because now only the left one will actually play anything. Luckily (and strangely enough) the mic on the right side works just fine. Mic as in what you talk into when using the iPhone. I practically live in these things when I’m not at work. Even when I’m home cooking dinner, working on my site, at the gym, even in the morning with my coffee getting ready I have them on. Especially my morning walk to work, I wear them everywhere. Now it’s just annoying to only hear in mono, it reminds me of when I was a kid with a little transistor radio (yeah, I had one) and only one earphone. The first thing to go on the bud was the little rubber connection protector at the base of the plug in. Worn out from wrapping up and living in my pocket it finally gave out about a month ago. I have a feeling that was the beginning of the end. Second went the “clicker” that allows you to answer calls, skip songs, stop and play the music. Even when I pinched as hard as I could the damn thing rarely worked. Now with much effort I can end a call but that’s about it. So once more it’s time to make a trip to the Apple Store to re-up on the earbuds. At least this time it’s only $30.

After using Health Cubby for a while on my iPhone it left me a bit unimpressed. You really couldn’t track your workout very well and to honest, I’m not looking to decrease my waist size dramatically or lose weight. I really want to get a better tone and maybe get a bit bigger so the weight thing doesn’t really make sense. So I found iFitness which allows you to track all of your workout. Everything, and I mean everything. First you set up your individual workout (at least that’s how I did it) by adding pre-entered exercises to each workout (ie. Chest = cable flys, dumbell bench, etc). Then as you workout you just enter your weights, reps and record. It tracks all of your progress over a timeline as well. You can look up what you did on your last workout, yesterday, last week, last month and adjust your workout accordingly. Hell it’ll even email you a complete CSV of all of your past workouts if you want to track it via Excel or some other program. Overall it’s pretty complete. There are few missing exercises but it allows you to add them in manually. I’ve only begun using it and just like every iPhone app, it doesn’t work if you don’t use it.
