Friday’s day off was phenomenal. I met the boys down in Delray around 8am and we hit it from there. 5-6 ft on most sets on the outside and it was longboard heaven. Ramil and I surfed for about five and a half hours, most of which was rainy but extremely fun. Two 20 minute breaks for parking meters and granola/gatoraid refuels and we were golden. Easily some of the best surf I’ve had in a very long time and well worth the day off work.
Unfortunately Dan didn’t get much sleep the night before because of his new addition (baby) so he had to split about two hours into the session and go home to sleep. Poor guy, he missed some great waves. Pat joined us around 1:30pm and stayed out after both Ramil and had no strength left to paddle back out.
The entire day had offshores so as you can tell from the photo, the faces were spraying all day. The swell did die down quite a bit as the day went on and by 3 it was fairly inconsistent and long waits between sets but most of us who’d been out earlier were pretty beat anyway.
One sad note on the day – one surfer drowned. I’m not sure if I knew him or even saw him but regardless, I’m sure he will be missed. My thought’s go out to his friends and family.
Surfer drowns off Delray Beach
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — Authorities say a surfer drowned off the coast of Delray Beach.
Police are not sure how the surfer drowned Friday but they don’t think the current or undertow played a part.
Authorities didn’t identify the man but said he was in his mid-20s. He was one of about 30 surfers taking advantage of the waves caused by Tropical Storm Hanna.
