Just A Nibble

Around 2:30 yesterday afternoon I got a shocking text message from my old friend Thanh-Ha. It seems her fiancé, Lance, was out surfing in Melbourne and was bitten by a 3-4 foot shark! I’m not clear on the whole story but it’s pretty crazy. He received 10 stitches in his foot at a local hospital for the bite but overall I think he’s ok. Now, I’ve heard of people getting bitten before but never a friend of mine. Melbourne is about 2 hours north of here close to the surf community of Sebastian. Sharks are fairly common up there especially on the other side of the Sebastian inlet. It’s a gnarly spot called Monster Hole because of the large shark population there.

So, don’t freak out guys, it’s pretty rare and yes, I’m still going to go surfing as often as possible. As a matter of fact it looks like some surf is coming our way. 2-4 swell to be hitting us today and up to 4-6 ft by Thursday afternoon. I’ll just make sure to keep my feet on my board as best as I can.
