Leopard + DAVE Networking = Unneccissary

Alright, so I was a bit leery about running the new operating system on my machine this morning at work as time is short and I didn’t have time to make sure a network program we Mac users had to use in the office in order to connect to our internal server. As soon as I got to the office this morning it was a no go. So off to Thursby software to see what an upgrade was. Unfortunately I didn’t have the email used in the original purchase so I was forced to buy a whole new liscense. Shit, $119 just to get it to work.

After three hours of working with the new stuff I began to notice some real issues with other software on my machine. For one thing my iPhone wouldn’t connect to iTunes and that’s an issue I can’t live with. So, I thought I’d run a full uninstall of DAVE and low and behold, OS 10.5.6 connected to the server just fine WITHOUT Dave networking software.

Next came the phone call to Thursby to get my refund, and yes there were cool with it so thanks guys for that one. I did so much research over the weekend to find out but honestly there was nothing out there cross-referencing DAVE with Leopard that even came close to what I needed.

So here it is (Sorry DAVE), if you upgrade to Leopard you no longer need DAVE to connect to a secure internal Windows server. Save your money. For the price of DAVE you can upgrade your whole damn computer to Mac OS 10.5.6.

  1. Hi,

I’m also trying to make do without Dave but we are having problems with EPS previews not showing up in Quark. I know it is because the resource file is stripped and that is where the previews are stored but just wondering if you’ve encountered this problem and managed to come up with any quick solution to it?

    Thanks,
    Steve

  2. To be honest I don’t do any print work and haven’t touched Quark in years since InDesign came out.
