Monday Reggae Night With Ramil

Last night’s little outing was a welcome chill point in what seems to a two week stress fest in the life of Damien. Ramil and I headed down to Boca to the Voodoo Lounge(?) for a couple of beers and some live reggea. I forgot the name but they play again next Monday. Four white dudes with a very ire sound and a good groove. Though the place was very small I really dug the vibe and atmosphere. After the first round we grabbed a hookah (apple and strawberry) and just chilled and smoked. And when I say “smoked” I don’t mean drugs. Hookah’s, if you’re not familiar with them, are normally packed with a gooey blend of tobacco, molasses and various types of fruit. The bong like filtering process pretty much takes out most of the nicotine and tobacco and what you’re left smoking is primarily sugar. Sweet and tasty depending on the fruit flavor (some taste like liquorice, yuck). The overall effect is kind of like the buzz you get when you hold your breath for awhile, ahah.

The reasons for my stress over the last week or so are many but primarily the weekend did the most damage and caused the most recent additions of gray hair to my already lightening dome shag. I actually had some homework over the weekend, mostly logo sketches and concepts for one of our newest clients. The one person in the office I tend to butt heads with was once again at it (not that I wasn’t at fault as well) and it made for a stressful weekend on top of trying to be creative and not fume with absolute disdain. A simple Monday morning meaning was both the cause of the stress and in the end a welcome outlet for both of us. A kind of truce and a better understanding I guess.
