Sloppy But Fun

Finally Palm Beach had some surf and I was out like a shot as soon as 6pm hit yesterday. I grabbed the 7’7″ and hit the beach. The wind was cranking so it was a bit sloppy but still a lot of fun. The drift was out of the south so hopping in at Flagpole was perfect. I’ve never seen so many quarter sized jelly-fish in the ocean at one time. Every two or three feet there was one or two little buggers. Luckily they’re so young they’re tentacles haven’t yet extended so it was just a little weird but no stings. Just paddling through little blue jellys.

Unfortunately I drifted all the way down to the breakers and because the tide was so high I was unable to make it back up the beach. The retaining wall was being hammered by oncoming surf so I had to walk up and climb the gate at the Breakers Resort, then run back up the street. It looks like Palm Beach has removed the spicket where us surfers used to rinse of so now we’ve got to walk all the way down to the first guard shack (about 2 blocks) just to rinse off. What a pain in the ass.

Today looks to be more of the same but the only difference is, I’m taking a half day off! Sunny, 78 degrees and the surf is up. I just hope the wind dies down just a bit by the time I get off of work so the sets clean up a bit. Regardless I’m sure I’ll be grinning from ear to ear by dark tonight. Ramil’s got the day off so I’ll be getting surf reports throughout the day.

Get out there and surf!
