Thanksgiving Day On The Beach

It seems I’m continuing some kind of tradition since I’ve been in Florida. Thanksgiving lunch on the beach and surf. Yesterday was no exception. Unfortunately the local surf was much smaller than expected so I made my way up to Ft. Peirce. At high tide the surf was chest to head high and lots of fun. I actually had my first Ft. Peirce barrel on a nice head high left.

When I first arrived at the beach I was worried it was too warm for a wetsuit, and since I forgot a pair of boardshorts, I’d be screwed. Once I hit the water though, I was glad I had the full suit. The wind was stiff and the water was very cold. You know it’s cold down here when you’re hands almost get numb.

Once the tide began to fall the surf became quite mushy. Some sets were still rolling in but seemed to jack up quite quickly and riding an 8’4” log made if difficult to get into some.

On the way home I decided to stop by Kite Beach in Jupiter. Kite Beach is a long paddle out to the outside sandbar but the few rides I got there were worth it. Huge head+ walls rolling through. By the time sunset fell I was thoroughly worn out. A good days surf and a smile on my face.
