Everyone seems to have some sort of Thanksgiving tradition. For most it’s traveling home and visiting family for a giant feast and then passing out in front of the TV watching football. For others it’s spending the day cooking and prepping said feast and enjoying it with the ones they love.

Mine is a bit different. I’ve been doing mine for over 3 years now and this year should be no different. My Thanksgiving tradition, as odd as it sounds, is to make a big, fat turkey sandwich and spend the entire day on the beach surfing.

Getting up early on Thanksgiving morning, checking the surf forecasts and local beach cams. Packing the board, towels, drinks and the ever important turkey sandwich and getting down to the beach early. Pick a board, paddle out and slide into a nice wave with the wind on my face and the sun on my back.

Every Thanksgiving holiday we’ve had decent swell and by the looks of it we’ll be having another one over the next few days.

So to those I don’t talk to over the next few days – have a happy Thanksgiving all.
