The south side of Delray Beach was a zoo again yesterday evening. 80 shortboarders dropping in on one another and my favorite asshole was in the water as well. Some redneck named Farmer who thinks he owns the place, you know the type. Loud mouthed, giant forehead and beet red face. The waves were rideable and at times would actually line up nicely. The swell was coming in out of the north so you’d assume that we’d have primarily lefts to run but the rights were looking just as good if not better on some sets. At least 4 waves I found myself cruising down the line only to run into a shortboarder heading right towards me on a right. Too many close calls and collisions, I hate crowds in Delray. Some places can handle the crowd factor but in Delray they’re so wave starved on shortboards that they usually don’t care if they drop in on you or not.
So, if there’s anything left after work today I’m surfing Atlantic Dunes. They say the wave’s are supposed to subside but there’s always a hope. The wind’s still cranking at about 15-20 mph out of the north north east so as long ast that keeps up, we’ll be set to go. Low tide’s around 5:15pm so it’s looking promising.
My early birthday present from my Mom was a lifesaver yesterday as well, thanks Mom. It was perfect. A Quicksilver long sleeve 1.5mm wetsuit top. Dan and Ramil decided to skin it (go without shirts) and even though Ramil was doing OK I know Dan was freezing his ass off. They’re probably in the water right now and I’ll almost lay odds on Dan wearing his 3.2mm full suit! I swear, that boy’s always cold.
So, if you’re in Delray grab your board, wetsuit top, towel and get out there and surf! I’ll see you in the water.
