Ok so every time I try and update or upgrade an application on my iPhone I get this “Unknown Error: 0xE800002E. After some adjustments I was able to find a method to resolve, or at least update my apps. Here’s the key:
1. Go to Applications in iTunes under your iPhone panel
2. Set the applications sync manually and only choose the ones that aren’t giving you problems. This will remove the troubled apps from the phone completely.
3. Sync up the phone.
4. Go back into the Applications tab of your iPhone and reselect the ones that were just removed.
5. Resync the phone and the troubled apps should then be reset and uploaded to your iPhone and you’re back in business.
I had contacted Apple about the issue but they were un-able to find a solution so I hope this helps anyone else out there who’s been having this problem.

Thanks for the tip! It worked flawless for me and I’m no longer irritated!
Thanks for this. My iPod Touch was doing the same thing with NetNewsWire and this worked great to put it right again.
I am getting an unknown error (-4). Had to reset my itouch back to factory setting to fix mobile banking issue. Now I can’t reload my $19.95 upgrade software to get maps, weather, etc. I do not see “Applications” in my Itunes system. Can someone help?
Steve
Thanks, this worked perfect. I was upgrading to a 3G iPhone when I started seeing this for the first time. All gone!
Thanks!
It works.
Tried it and worked like a charm, Thanks it was beginning to get a bit irritating
Cheers, worked for me.
This will work, but if you go this route any saved information, especially from games, will be lost. I went this route to update a game on my wife’s iPhone and lost about two weeks worth of game play. Gone! This method will work fine, but not a path to be used in every situation.
Worked first time. Finally found a way to sort out the error bugging me since i first got apps!!!
Did this OK but the release is still
1.02 (v77.8.0. 103469) built 2008-07-30 7:57:53 +1000
I don’t think this is the latest release.
Where can I find latest iPhone release info
THanks! worked like a charm.
This worked once on iPhone v. 2.0.1, but then the problem resurfaced when an “updated” version of the app came out and I tried to install on v. 2.0.2. Now the app refuses to install regardless of what I try.
You rock! Out of all the search results on this error on Google, yours is the only one with an answer.. and it worked! Thanks
Same error, but this method doesn’t work for me. When I readd the apps to the sync they just show the error again.
I’m having the same problem as Shay. Deleting aps, restoring from stratch,..all get the same errors.
I’ve found by simply rebooting the phone it solves any other app issues. I too still get the error but I no longer have to reinstall the apps.
Hold down the home button and the top button for at least 6 seconds then turn it back on once it quits. Resync and the apps seem to work just fine without reinstalling.
This worked beautifully for me! Thanks for the great tip.
Didn’t work for me on iTunes 7.x and iPhone 3G 2.1 on Winblows Vista – I can’t load 60 apps since restoring from a backup of my last phone that drowned… not sure why some apps work and others don’t
didn’t work for me..
i got a ipod touch 3G and still get that shitty error whenever i install an aplication..
any suggestions ?
I’m not sure. I’m sure the Apple Techs will tell you reset the phone and if the problem persists I’d simply take it back and get a new one. They’ve got a pretty good replacement policy.
